Dr Mahnaz Syed
Specialist Periodontist
Mahnaz has been in Perth Western Australia since 2007 where she practices as a specialist periodontist in Subiaco and is part time clinical implant tutor at the University of Western Australia. She is on the specialist list in Periodontics in the UK and Australia. Mahnaz is an ITI Member and a member of the American Academy for Implant Dentisty, as well as the American Academy of Periodontology.

This patient presented missing a front tooth. This was an injury which occurred as a teenager. As the tooth was lost many years ago, there was bone loss and required a bone graft.

This was a complex case where the patient presented to Elite Perio after having a failed block bone graft procedure by a different specialist.
Dr Syed needed to re do the block bone graft and perform some soft tissue grafting. Dr Syed then performed the implant placement the general dentist made the implant crown. Patient was delighted after initially she thought she thought she would not be able to replace her tooth with an implant.

This patient presented with a severe gum infection around her front tooth, which has caused the tooth the move in position. The patient was very unhappy with the aesthetics especially the large black triangles between the teeth. She was very self-conscious when she smiled.

A staged implant surgery was performed with augmentation of the soft and hard tissues to get the best aesthetic result and eliminate the black triangles between the teeth.

This patient presented after having her tooth extracted approximately 4 years prior. Some minor bone grafting was required to ensure the success of the implant

This patient presented with a history of gum disease and the patients front tooth (the 23) was mobile due the disease and could not be saved. Dr Syed needed to treat the gum disease first, extracted the tooth, then referred the patient for some orthodontics and then final placed the dental implant
This is the result and is a great example of a multidisciplinary specialist case. The patient was delighted with results.
Complex Dental Implants

This patient was referred to Elite Perio because he had an infection in the gum above his front tooth. This infection was caused by a dental implant which was placed in New Zealand around 19 years ago. Dr Syed perform a soft tissue graft to, this removed the infected tissue and then replaced it with health gums.

This patient present with after having pain above her front tooth. This pain was caused due to an implant which was placed overseas around 3 years ago. The implant had become infected as the implant size was too large for the site. Dr Syed needed to perform a complex periodontal gum surgery to halt the infection. The surgery was successful and the patient was able to keep her dental implant.

Crown Lengthening

This first patient had her front teeth “Crown Lengthened”, as you can see the the teeth now appear longer due to the removal of the gums.

This next patient, again did not like her gums growing down between her teeth and wanted her crowns “lengthened”. You can see in the after pictures now the affect the procedure has done.

This patient was referred to Dr Syed with recession around the bottom teeth after successful completion of orthodontic treatment. Dr Syed perform a soft tissue graft to repair the damage and the patient was delighted with the results.

This patient presented with recession and sensitivity around her back molar. Dr Syed performed a soft tissue graft around the molar, one of the most difficult sites to perform this procedure and the patient received a great result.

This patient was referred to Elite Perio with the complaint that she has noticed recession around her upper teeth for the last 6 years and it was getting worse. This was caused by her genetic makeup and some history of orthodontic treatment.

This patient presented with post orthodontic recession on her lower tooth. This was causing root sensitivity as well
Dr Syed performed a soft tissue graft and this picture was taken two weeks post-surgery, where 100% root coverage was achieved and the sensitivity was cured. Patient was delighted with the result.

This patient presented with a severe lingual recession. This was caused by a tongue piercing. Lingual recession is very difficult to treat.
This is post-operative picture of the patient after Dr Syed performed a connective tissue graft. There has been a significant improvement despite interproximal bone loss.
